Hanmer Springs, New Zealand

View of the mountains in Hanmer Springs

Hanmer Springs is a small mountain town just under two hours northwest of Christchurch.  It was nice to get out of Christchurch and be back in a small town!  The main attraction here is the thermal pools, believed to have healing powers.  I spent a few hours lounging around and in the different pools and then had an afternoon at the spa, getting two different types of massages to work out the kinks from my travels.  : )

After taking in all that the Hot Springs had to offer, I had some of the best Indian food I have ever had in town, and then proceeded on to find my lodging outside of town.  My B&B was located way up a hill, accessible via a switch-back dirt road, and I had a spectacular view from my patio!

I got word that one of my upcoming stays at a B&B was cancelled, and when I mentioned it to my hostess while I ate breakfast this morning, she promptly started calling places for me.  Kiwi hospitality truly is remarkable.  More on this later...
