Nelson, New Zealand

Nelson is a lovely small city (or large town, depending on your perspective) which has tree lined streets, brick sidewalks, and hanging flower baskets every 10 paces.  Its main downtown area is approximately 4 streets by 8 streets and has numerous cafes with outdoor seating and open face shops which gives the city a very vibrant feel.  The main road through downtown is Trafalgar Street, and everything is in reference to how close you are to Trafalgar Street.

I spent the day walking around town checking out shops.  I also managed to find my way over to the church at city center, walk way up to the top of a hill to find New Zealand's geographical center mark (this was a short 20 minute walk, but was nearly straight up!!), and took a short walk through the Queen's Gardens, a city garden a few blocks from Trafalgar Street.

It was a slow paced day and that was good as I needed to recover from my activities in Abel Tasman.  Tomorrow is a long drive down to Hokitika to begin my trek down the West Coast of the South Island.
